The governments of Canada and British Columbia have both announced financial measures to help businesses and individuals weather the economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
The measures, which are described as first steps, range from wage subsidies to business loans and deferred payments of taxes and import tariffs.<\/p>\n
Since various program details are still being finalized, the government websites below are the best and most current sources of information:<\/p>\n
In announcing the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, which will cover 75 per cent of an employee\u2019s wages on the first $58,700, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he hoped this will help eliminate the need for companies to layoff employees. And where layoffs have already occurred, to have employers consider rehiring laid-off workers.<\/p>\n
