Empowering Women to Build Futures in the Construction Industry
Vancouver, BC – Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) is reaching out to Lower Mainland municipalities to work together to safeguard construction projects from potential disruptions due to tariff threats from the Trump administration.
VRCA is committed to collaborating with municipal leaders to ensure critical infrastructure projects remain viable. By taking a proactive approach, municipalities can help maintain a competitive and fair procurement process while addressing economic uncertainties.
“We are initiating these important conversations to collaboratively build stronger procurement processes that benefit both municipalities and the construction industry,” said Jeannine Martin, President of the VRCA. “By working together, we can create solutions that address uncertainties, foster competitive bidding, and ensure the successful delivery of essential community projects.”
VRCA invites municipalities to join in reviewing contract templates and exploring ways to incorporate financial protections that will foster a sustainable and thriving construction industry.
Through open dialogue and collaboration, VRCA aims to:
- Ensure contract provisions mitigate financial uncertainty;
- Maintain a fair and competitive bidding environment that attracts quality contractors and ensures transparency for Owners;
- Share best practices and insights to strengthen municipal projects and industry sustainability.
“Collaborative Contracts continue to be buzzwords around construction procurement options. This is a perfect opportunity to truly collaborate. We believe municipalities and industry can work hand in hand to navigate these challenges,” added Martin. “By fostering strong partnerships, we can ensure that essential community projects move forward without unnecessary delays and impacts on the economy can be in some cases mitigated and in others at least predicted.”
