VRCA Young Construction Leaders (YCL) Committee

The YCL is a working committee that provides Young Construction Leaders from Lower Mainland member companies with opportunities to broaden their industry knowledge through educational and networking opportunities. In return, committee members gain leadership training and professional growth, build valuable business connections, exposure to government advocacy efforts, and increase visibility for themselves and their organizations.

Call for Nominations for the 2026 VRCA | YCL Committee

We are currently seeking nominations for passionate and engaged Young Construction Leaders to join the VRCA | YCL Committee. If you know a rising leader—or are one yourself – we encourage you to submit a nomination and help shape the future of our industry

Target VRCA Members: 25–40-year-old rising leaders in the construction sector (max 10-14 per year).

Meet the Candidates Event at the VRCA Office – Save the Date: January 13, 2026 at 4PM
Application Deadline: January 17, 2026
Voting week: January 19-23, 2026

Individuals are selected through a nomination and voting process. The nomination requires company support.

Nominees must be employees of member companies in good standing that hold an integrated membership (voting rights) to participate. To ensure institutional transfer of knowledge, there are three multi-year positions including Chair, Vice Chair, and Past Chair. Individuals would begin in the Vice Chair position and transition to Chair and past Chair, serving for 3 years on the committee. The YCL Past Chair also participates on the VRCA board during their past chair year. The Executive positions nominations require previous VRCA | YCL participation to be considered.

VRCA|YCL Positions

  • Vice Chair – Assist the Chair with providing leadership and guiding the Committee to achieve goals set out at Executive Committee meetings. Term length is 1 year, with the commitment to advance to the Chair position, and then Past-Chair in subsequent years for a 3-year total commitment.  Assist with raising sponsorship funds when needed throughout the year.
  • Treasurer – Manage the YCL budget and responsible for reporting to the Committee on the financial achievement of events to ensure they remain sustainable. Assist with raising sponsorship funds when needed throughout the year.
  • Secretary – Assist with administrative duties including recording minutes at Committee meetings and delivering to the VRCA for distribution.  Assist with raising sponsorship funds when needed throughout the year.
  • Events Director – Assist VRCA staff with the planning, organization, and execution of VRCA|YCL events.  Assist with raising sponsorship funds when needed throughout the year.
  • Marketing Director – Works with VRCA and helps promote the Young Construction Leaders committee, its events, and its initiatives and collaborates with committee members to ensure consistent messaging and showcase the YCL’s value to current and prospective participants.  Assist with raising sponsorship funds when needed throughout the year.
  • Education Director – Collaborates with VRCA Workforce Development initiatives, including the School Connection and Bring Trades to Schools programs to support industry outreach, engagement with students, and promote the image of construction.  Assist with raising sponsorship funds when needed throughout the year.
  • Director at Large / Division Reps (4 positions) – Participate in VRCA | YCL Committee meetings and attend all relevant Division Forums as the Committee representative. Participate in VRCA | YCL events through raising sponsorships and attendance. 

Criteria: at least 3 years of experience, demonstrated leadership potential, company support letter, and industry involvement.
