VRCA members surveyed tell us the No. 1 issue keeping them up at night is the skilled labour shortage. And with good reason: The Lower Mainland will be short 7,300 skilled tradesmen and women by late 2021, and short 17,400 by 2029. Province wide, the construction industry will be short 11,700 skilled trades professionals by late 2021 and short 23,000 by 2029.
These statistics prompted VRCA to launch a new, mobile-friendly labour market resources page comprising the Top 16 ways in which members can navigate the skilled labour shortage. The resources are designed for employers and organized around the recruitment life cycle of: Understand the Market, Attract, Train and Retain.
To complement the employer resources page, by March 13, VRCA will publish a new resources page specifically for job seekers. Those resources will also be posted on Construction Job Centre.
If there are other resources that should be added to either the employer or employee pages, please contact David Weir, Manager, Industry and Government Relations, at [email protected].
