Dear Mayoral and Council Candidates,
With the municipal election campaign now in its final week, VRCA is calling for practical change to help build the homes, infrastructure and opportunities our communities need.
In a world of global tensions, trade uncertainty, and economic pressure, local leadership can give businesses confidence and keep projects moving.
Construction’s more than 150,000 workers across the Lower Mainland, and the small businesses that employ many of them, need municipal leaders who understand these pressures and are ready to act.
Through VRCA’s Build Lower Mainland campaign, we are asking you to focus on four priorities:
Cost to Build: Make fees and requirements more predictable. Consider how added costs affect businesses and the affordability of homes, workplaces, and public infrastructure.
Time to Build: Set clear expectations for permitting and approvals, improve coordination and address delays while maintaining responsible oversight.
People to Build: Connect municipalities, schools, training providers and employers to create pathways into construction careers and build the workforce our communities need.
Give construction a seat at the table: Establish Construction Advisory Committees so industry, councils and staff can identify problems early and develop practical solutions together.

This campaign does not endorse any party or candidate. It asks everyone seeking office to recognize construction as a partner in delivering the future they describe.
Change means improving what works, fixing what holds us back and following through. VRCA and our members are ready to contribute our experience, ideas and commitment to turn shared goals into meaningful progress.
We need to work together.
Be part of what comes next. www.buildlowermainland.ca
