Fall 2025 Stat Pack Reveals Growth in Construction Jobs; Construction Companies in B.C.

Vancouver, B.C. – October 28, 2025 – The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) is celebrating new data showing strong growth in British Columbia’s construction sector – including increases in both overall trades employment and the number of construction companies. The findings are part of the B.C. Construction Association (BCCA)’s Fall 2025 Stat Pack, a semi-annual report that tracks leading economic and labour conditions across the province’s construction sector.

According to the report, the number of workers in construction trades jobs has risen 14% over the last year. This growth mirrors the uptick in the number of construction companies in B.C., which now exceeds 28,000 – an increase of more than 160 companies since fall 2024. Meanwhile, the number of women working in construction trades is up 5.3%, representing approximately 600 additional women entering the industry.

The report also highlights the sector’s broader economic impact. Construction accounts for 9.2% of B.C.’s total GDP, a 3% increase over the past five years. More than 267,000 people rely directly on the construction industry for a paycheque – up 10% since last year.

“These numbers underscore the sector’s critical contribution to B.C.’s overall economy, especially as construction continues to be the number one employer in the province’s goods sector,” said Jeannine Martin, President of the VRCA. “We are thrilled to see more women in construction, alongside strong overall job growth across the province.”

Despite the positive data, rising costs remain a concern. Inflationary pressures have driven construction costs up 4% since last year, making B.C. the fourth most expensive province in Canada for construction.

“While we’re disappointed, but not surprised, to see rising costs, it’s encouraging that industry activity remains steady,” said Martin. “Recent federal statistics show a slowdown in both the construction industry and job growth, and we look forward to seeing the new federal budget on November 4 to understand its implications for construction. In the meantime, we’re encouraged to see that our members continue to demonstrate resilience in the face of economic challenges.”

The release of the Fall 2025 Stat Pack coincides with the introduction of Prompt Payment legislation – a move to ensure workers and businesses are paid on time, bringing B.C. in line with other provinces across Canada.

“The VRCA is proud to work alongside the BCCA in advocating fairness and prompt payment,” added Martin. “Despite external economic pressures, measures like this will help bring greater stability and certainty to the contractors we represent.”
