VRCA Announces Development of First Reconciliation Action Plan to Advance Industry Inclusivity

Vancouver, B.C. – In recognition of the 2025 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) has announced that it is developing its first Reconciliation Action Plan to help advance meaningful change within the construction industry. The VRCA currently has over 1,000 member companies in the Greater Vancouver area and has been the voice of British Columbia’s construction sector since 1928.

“The VRCA is committed to raising the visibility of reconciliation within construction,” said Jeannine Martin, President of the VRCA. “Through education, partnerships, and meaningful action, we aim to build stronger relationships with Indigenous communities and promote inclusive industry practices.”

During the week of September 22, 2025, VRCA employees gathered with VRCA Board Director and Founder of Swain Solutions, Sam Brezden, to discuss and collectively brainstorm the new Reconciliation Action Plan, which will be finalized and launched by VRCA’s leadership team.

Although this plan is the first of its kind at the VRCA, the organization is committed to reconciliation initiatives. The organization currently:

  • Recognizes and respects Indigenous rights, traditions, and cultural heritage.
  • Supports Indigenous workforce development.
  • Educates VRCA members about Indigenous histories and reconciliation practices.

The next steps in VRCA’s journey include identifying key areas where VRCA can build reconciliation infrastructure into the organizations’ practices. Areas for further investigation include procurement of supplies and services, integration of Indigenous art, providing resources to member companies on reconciliation, and amplifying member stories of successful collaboration with Indigenous entities and peoples.

“The VRCA understands that reconciliation is an ongoing journey requiring education and attention to meaningful change,” said Jeannine Martin. “We encourage all industry stakeholders to join us in building an inclusive and equitable construction industry.”
