Council of Construction Associations (COCA)
The Council of Construction Associations (COCA) represents all major construction associations in British Columbia and acts on behalf of the construction industry in all WorkSafeBC matters.
The primary role of COCA is focused in three main areas:
• Developing consensus on construction policy positions,
• Addressing legislative, regulatory, policy and practice issues within the workers’ compensation system in BC, and
• Assisting individual employers, contractors, and associations with their WorkSafeBC concerns.
COCA’s membership is comprised of construction and trade associations operating in BC. Funding associations participate on the Council to ensure that COCA remains safety focused, self-directed, and responsive to the changing needs of industry. Committee members are drawn from member/partner associations to govern COCA activities. The BC Construction Association is a majority funder and co-founder which provides administrative support and acts in capacity of secretariat.
BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA)
The BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA) is a not-for-profit association that provides services to more than 57,000 construction companies employing more than 220,000 workers. The BCCSA is financed entirely by the BC construction and aggregate industries, and ready-mixed classification units through a small percentage of their assessment premiums collected by WorkSafeBC. Through this funding BCCSA provides the industry with health and safety services, programs, and training. As a safety association recognized by WorkSafeBC, BCCSA promotes and develops workplace health and safety in compliance with WorkSafeBC’s regulations and guidelines. The BCCSA also acts as the construction industry’s apolitical voice on construction health and safety issues.
All employers registered through WorkSafeBC are eligible to become COR® certified and participate in their safety management training initiative.
The BCCSA is governed by a Board of Directors whose members represent all areas of the industry: residential; road building; aggregate; ready-mixed; industrial, commercial, institutional; and heavy construction. Worker safety is the number one priority. To that end, BCCSA offers a range of services that (1) focus on injury prevention and creating or enhancing a culture of safety on construction sites; and (2) meet a diversity of needs among owners, managers, supervisors, and workers. The BCCSA is a member of the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA).
