Did you know that suicide is the No. 2 cause of death for men in the construction industry aged 19-54? Depression and mental health must not be a taboo topic in construction. The BC Construction Safety Alliance and VRCA are co-hosting a seminar on mental health in the construction industry on Feb. 6.

Entiled “An Adventure Within: How to Become more (Hu)Manly & Tangible Tools for your Company,” the seminar will feature former CFL player Shea Emry and Donna Grant of Scott Construction.

Emry currently works closely with The Canadian Men’s Health Foundation and Bell’s “Let’s Talk” Campaign and is the founder of Wellmen, an organization that strives to improve the overall health of men by teaching them modern-day survival skills.

Donna Grant is a member of the Scott Construction Group Mental Health Committee and has worked hard to decrease the stigma surrounding mental illness in their workplace. She is certified in mental health first aid and is passionate about supporting overall wellness within her team.

As keynote speakers, Emry and Grant will discuss the importance of mental health among those in the construction industry and how employers can support their employees through their mental health journeys.

This complimentary seminar will take place at Trev Deeley Motorcycles in Vancouver on Feb. 6 from 7 – 9:00 a.m. and will include breakfast. Registration will open at 6:45 a.m. and the breakfast buffet will open at 7:00 a.m.
