The governments of Canada and British Columbia have both announced financial measures to help businesses and individuals weather the economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The measures, which are described as first steps, range from wage subsidies to business loans and deferred payments of taxes and import tariffs.
Since various program details are still being finalized, the government websites below are the best and most current sources of information:
In announcing the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, which will cover 75 per cent of an employee’s wages on the first $58,700, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he hoped this will help eliminate the need for companies to layoff employees. And where layoffs have already occurred, to have employers consider rehiring laid-off workers.
To support member companies during these times, VRCA is maintaining a COVID-19 resource page where you will find links to resources for both companies and individuals.
