In May, the B.C. Attorney General Ministry staff were given the approval to convene a large table working group to consult on the creation of
Prompt Payment Legislation. While this is welcome news, we still lag far behind other jurisdictions across Canada where legislation has already been enacted or is well on the way. This past month alone, New Brunswick’s Prompt Payment & Adjudication Act received Royal Assent.

Based on an assessment of the current Legislative Calendar, we are hopeful that this will take place during the Fall of 2024 / Spring of 2025 timeframe unless more political will is demonstrated in the meantime.

BCCA and Your VRCA will be watching this closely and will continue to aggressively advocate on behalf of BC’s construction employers.
